During the 2020-2021 school year, all machine shop access for non-wood projects was restricted to a work-order only system. What this meant was that we were not able to machine our own parts, but had to submit drawings like the one above to get any part machined for us. Above is a part that was submitted for machining on behalf of Olin’s Baja SAE team for use in an offroad vehicle’s gearbox.
Although it is not preferable to actual machine shop experience, the 2020-2021 covid-impacted semesters did build my skills in creating drawings of parts that can be easily interpreted and machined off of.
